Transfering a License

Robo-FTP can be installed on a user's workstation, department server, etc. -- any machine running Windows that needs to make outgoing FTP connections.  If for some reason you need to move your license to a new machine, your Robo-FTP license is transferable.  There are two methods for transferring a license, automated and manual.  The automated transfer method will work in most cases, and should always be attempted first.

 

The following requirements must be met in order to transfer your Robo-FTP license.

 

1.The current machine Robo-FTP is installed on must have access to the Internet.
2.The new machine that will host Robo-FTP must have an internet connection.
3.There must be no firewall issues preventing either machine from contacting our licensing server.
4.If either machine is behind a proxy server, it must be compatible with the online activation feature.

 

Automated Transfer:

 

Install Robo-FTP on the new PC to obtain a 30-day trial license.  The 30 day trial should give you plenty of time to test any scripts you may have, export settings, import settings, and troubleshoot any issues before moving the license.

 

On the old PC, open Robo-FTP and select "Remove License..." from the Help menu. Work through each window prompt until you receive "License removal successful".

 

On the new PC, open Robo-FTP and select "Activate License..." from the help menu.

 

Select 'activate my Robo-FTP license online', and click 'OK'.

 

Enter the Serial Number for the removed license, and choose 'Activate'.

 

If you encounter any response other than 'Activation Successful', you will have to manually transfer your license.

 

Manual Transfer:

 

Install Robo-FTP on the new PC to obtain a 30-day trial license.  The 30 day trial should give you plenty of time to test any scripts you may have, export settings, import settings, and troubleshoot any issues before moving the license.

 

On the old PC, open Robo-FTP and select "Remove License..." from the Help menu. Work through each window prompt until you receive "License removal successful".

 

Open the Robo-FTP home directory using Window Explorer.  By default, it is C:\Program Files\Robo-FTP.

 

Locate the file named "removal.txt".  This file was created when you removed the license.  Copy, print, or save this file so it will be available on the new machine.

 

On the new machine select 'Activate License...' from the Help menu.

 

Choose 'activate my Robo-FTP license manually', and click 'OK'.

 

Choose 'submit a manual license activation request', and click 'OK'.

 

The 'Manual License Activation' page should appear.  Click 'Show Site Code'

 

There are two important items from this window that you will need.  The first is the site code and the second is the link to the Robo-FTP online activation web page.  Click the www.roboftp.com/activate, or cut and paste it into your web browser.  If you do not have access to the Internet from this computer, you can use an alternative computer that does have Internet access.

 

The Robo-FTP activation web page requires the following information to transfer a license.

 

1. The serial number you are transferring

2. The site code from the 'Show Site Code' window on the new machine

3. The removal code which is located in the "removal.txt" file

4. A valid e-mail address to receive the new site key

 

If all the fields are entered correctly, a site key will be generated.  To finalize the license transfer, you will need to enter this site key into Robo-FTP to fully activate the license.

 

Select 'Activate License...' from the Help menu on the new machine.

 

Choose 'activate my Robo-FTP license manually', and click 'OK'.

 

Choose 'enter license activation site key', and click 'OK'.

 

Enter the serial number for which you wish to transfer and enter your new site key.  It is recommended to cut and paste to these fields.
